Tools For Conviviality

I stop off at the Med Kitchen in Cambridge Circus to finish reading through Ivan Illich’s, Tools For Conviviality and make a few notes. After a short while a group of business people sit near by, they talk of benchmarks, forecasts, and solutions. I read of the corporate endeavours that threaten the possibility of a convivial society and destruction of social purpose. They talk of deals by the end of the week. I read of a system that perpetuates those who have more than enough. They talk of more training. I read of schools monopolising learning by redefining it as education, an ‘education’ where we are trained to perform and learn to fail. They talk of their cars, I decide to get on my bike.

This quartet played for our Friendship Force group at dinner at Hotel Taverna. You can see the violin, bass, and cembalom. I believe that the fourth player was a clarinet.
