Lily Setup

This is my first attempt at a flower picture. My partner picked these lilies up in the local supermarket to put on her Buddha shrine, but before she did I thought I would have a go at photographing them.
My first attempt involved placing a sheet of perspex behind them suspended vertically from a reflector arm and resting on two chairs. I was trying to get a reflection of the vase and flowers in the perspex slightly offset from the main subject. I did manage this but the result was not quite as pleasing as I had hoped. The reflection was not very bright and it just made the whole image look too messy. I did get a few shots where the reflection of the umbrella ended up behind the flowers and this also looked interesting, but again did not suit the subject.
In the end I just removed the perspex and shot the picture as seen in the final image.
I had an SB-28 to the left of the flowers fired bare on full power. Another SB-28 was behind and to the right of the flowers, again fired bare on full power. I had one final SB-28 fired through a translucent umbrella at 1/2 power to the front and right of the flowers. I also had an Elinchrom D-Lite 4 flash head in the bottom of the box pointing up and fired at 1/2 power. All flashes were triggered with PW’s.
For a first go, I don’t think the shot is terrible, but there is definitely room for improvement and this subject is one I think I will be revisiting again soon.
